Travel essentials: Belkin Mini Surge Protector Dual USB Charger

When we travel, we try to pack as little as possible. On this trip, I tried to limit myself to 13 pounds. That’s really not a lot of stuff, so it’s critical that we only bring necessary stuff.

When I packed the “Belkin Mini Surge Protector Dual USB Charger” (recommended to me by Joe Stump), I was skeptical. It’s not that small, and took up more room in my pack that I’d prefer.

The benefits are pretty simple. Turn one outlet into three outlets + two USB slots. I questioned if we would ever use it, but since Elle and I are traveling with a lot of technology, I figured it’d be worth packing. If we didn’t use it, we’d throw it away (it was less than $15).

I’m so glad we brought it.

Everywhere we’ve been so far, the outlets have been limited. Being able to turn one into 5 has helped us almost every day of this trip. In addition, most of the palces we’ve gone require a power convertor. Instead of buying a convertor for each device in each country, we just get one and plug the Belkin into it.

In addition, it’s a surge protector. So when we plug out stuff into an outlet that sparks (fairly common) we have a bit more protection from our computerse getting fried.

For anyone traveling with technology, I highly recommend this device. I even recommend it when not traveling, because if you are at a coffee shop and the outlets are taken, you can always ask if you can turn the outlet into 5 and use one of the plugs.

Thanks Joe for the rec!
